Additional NETGEAR GS605 5-port Gigabit Desktop Switch Information

For a high-speed network on a small scale, nothing delivers like these stylish powerhouses. These fast, easy, and affordable Gigabit switches gives your home network the maximum capacity to handle huge bandwidth. Packed with ease-of-use features to simplify your networking experience, their sleek design makes them look great on a desktop - either flat or in the provided stand. The GS605 and GS608 move very large files such as high-end multimedia, gaming, Internet access, and other speed-intensive applications across your network instantly, and because they are standards-based, they painlessly integrate existing 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices on your network. The fan-less design results in silent operation allowing you to focus on your game or relax to your music. Matched with NETGEAR's thorough testing, the GS600 switches provide long-lasting performance you can count on.

What Customers Say About NETGEAR GS605 5-port Gigabit Desktop Switch:

The switch operates as specified and has solved the problem of too many devices and not enough ports.

All my 100mbps wired are Netgear 2x FS105, 2x FS108, 1x FS608 and 2x GS605. I had purchased 4 Gig cards from Amazon no problems but I had to get Gig switches to work with them on my 100mbps wired and wireless network. Now the only beef I have with Netgear is the switch tends to drop out of Gig to 100mbps when the switch gets hot. No it's not the Gig card if you connect that directly it works for weeks. Just to let you all know you can mount them on the wall if you do it this way shown in the image. I don't know why one would do this and not the other.

GS605 is the quickest but you might have problem with it when it gets very hot when used for downloading/uploading other heavy duty task, then you have to unplug it to reset it back to the a stable state. Now that Gig is in place these switches work quick transfer speeds are over 30mb when a use a free home user version of a software called teracopy. Memory buffer is larger in the GS605 128KB packet buffer. I am having the same issue again and this one is a replacement for the prior one. Both port 3 fails to stay at Gig. I might just order a USB FAN and let it cool now the switch.

I use wire and to wood screws.[.].

This is a great switch for a home network. Its fast, easy to connect, has a cool design and works well. I saw my network file copy speeds go up from less than 20MBps to over 40MBps sustained. This is a greats wtich and I recommend this to anyone with a small home network.

Well the lease company came in and again, gave us a Linksys gigabit switch and I tried plugging that in instead of the Netgear unit. printer\copier\scanner (same model as before) connected at 10mbs on the scanner but would not connect for the printer.

I purchased 2 GS605s and one GS608 for some end point distribution. Everything went ok on the GS608 - except for a combination printer/fax/copier we have.

We just upgraded the wiring to Cat6 in my office. Then when I tried to bring up the other half of the office using one of the GS605 units I kept getting wired problems.

The people we lease from said that that happens sometimes with their copiers and gave us a Linksys gigabit switch to use - just for the printer. Worked fine.

One user I could not connect at gigabit speeds so I replaced the cable ends - 2 times. everything came up- printer\copier\fax\scanner, the user I replaced end on was at gigabit speeds and the unit is running fine - with very little heat coming off of it unlike the Netgear that was almost hot while it was installed. In the past I usually used Linksys and I guess I will continue to use Linksys.

We had two of these. One of them failed altogether right out of warranty; it would drop all connections a few minutes after powerup. The other one was also behaving erratically and slowing traffic on the network for no apparent reason, even after frequent restarts.
